"One has to be creative with names. We are two of the only politically conservative scientists around, and we decided to stick our necks out." Entomologist Quentin Wheeler, on his decision, with colleague Kelly Miller, to name three newly discovered beetles species Agathidium bushi, Agathidium cheneyi and Agathidium rumsfeldi"

Being in a hospital frame of mind of late, I found these two Tipsheet bits from Newsweek helpful:

No one wants to trust his heart-bypass surgery to a mediocre hospital. But how do you sort the reliable ones from the rest? Earlier this month the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, along with the nation's major hospital groups, launched a database that offers free performance reports on more than 4,200 hospitals nationwide. For now, hospitalcompare.hhs.gov focuses on the quality of care for patients with heart attacks, heart failure and pneumonia. It shows, for example, the percentage of patients at each hospital who are treated with beta blockers and aspirin at arrival and discharge—key recommendations from the American Heart Association. Until the site adds more information early next year, you may want to supplement it with data from other sources.

and

Healthgrades.com, which charges for some of its information, examines mortality and complication rates for 28 procedures and diagnoses, including hip replacement and bypass. Patients should also seek advice from their doctors.

I'm trying to recharge the old batteries, so I've done nothing this weekend. Except yesterday I filled some prescriptions, went to Target to get more glowsticks, went to the scrapbook shop to pick paper to scan for backgrounds, did the grocery shopping, went back to the other drugstore to find what they didn't have at the first one and a little bit of laundry. And a little cleaning. Changed the birds' water. Cause it was dirty.

I can't tell you how refreshed I feel. I did do one of those Aqua Massage things at the mall, though. I don't think I ever got over feeling really stupid at the idea of people walking by being able to see me sticking out of that thing, but otherwise, not bad. I had been fighting a killer headache and aching feet when I laid down, but when I got out, my feet felt great. I had a pleasant tingly feeling all over. It was nice.

Tonight, my husband, son and I played Scene-It. That was a lot of fun, and one of those games where no one can get offended by being sent back to start. You can play a single player game online, too.
