They found our car about a mile from our home. I expected it to be fully stripped, but they only took the airbags, the battery, the radiator, some belts and some coins and stuff from the trunk. What they think happened is some disreputable body shop had a car like mine come in with front end damage, and they went looking for a car to replace the parts.
How did they get past the ridiculously expensive alarm system/kill switch installed? Easy. They simply wrenched their way into the car, popped the trunk and disconnected the battery. That reset the whole system. Then they just hooked the battery back up and took off with my car.
At least they were nice enough, when they were done with it, to put the shade screens up in the windshield.
Better yet, all the medical records were there in the trunk. Ditto my necklace and my son's tassel, the cds, etc. So, all told, the whole thing will have cost us the deductible. Not great, but not critical, either.
Merry Christmas, us.
