My middle girl on the beach in Malibu. Today was a good day. She has had several consecutive days of pain-free periods which leave me cautiously hopeful. It's like watching the sun play peek-a-boo in the clouds - it breaks through for a minute, goes back behind the clouds, breaks through again. Eventually the idea will be to have the sun burn off all the clouds and give us a lot of perfectly cloudless, sunny days.

Well, but not hot. I hate hot days. Maybe we could have really sunny, cold days like you get in the fall, where the clouds are these huge, fluffy white things floating across the sky, never obscuring the sun except where you can see, in the road ahead of you, some kind of shadow lands thing happening. Like heat waves coming off the blacktop. Or no, not heat waves and nothing in the road ahead of you, because that implies something lurking up there and what we want is lurkless sun. So - cold, sunny days where it's really cold and - uh, sunny.
