Yesterday was a bad pain day for my girl. It was getting really bad, she was out of her nausea med and, afraid she would end up in the ER with another Nazi, she had a panic attack. I tried calming her, holding her, cooing all the things you do when your child is afraid, but she was just too scared. I called her doctor to have her call in a refill for the nausea med and to see if it was ok to give my daughter the Valium they prescribed months ago. I should have known something was up by how hard it was to get through and sure enough, the doctor quit. No notice, no explanation, just quit and the office was scrambling to dispense her patients to the other doctors in the office, only one of whom is currently not on vacation. One doctor to see four docs patients. In any case, none of the other doctors in that office had ever taken care of my daughter, so no one was willing to prescribe for her.

I got the pain management doctor on the phone and she called in the refill for us. She didn't want me to give my daughter the Valium because it would react badly with the new meds, so how to calm her down? Her big sister stepped in - let's go to City Walk, she said. City Walk is like a big, open air mall in the hills out here and my daughter likes being there. I said yeah - you guys go to City Walk, I'll give you some cash and I'll park nearby and read a book. If you get sick, I'll be right there.

So that's how we got through yesterday. My oldest taking care of her little sister and me parked down the hill with my son for a hour. Finally, they called and said to go ahead on home, she didn't think she would need me to come get her for a bit. Yea! I had to pick up the meds, so I figured I would do that, drop my son off with my husband, and go back up the hill to get the girls when the stores were closed.

On the way to the pharmacy, the sun was going down and the sky was turning gorgeous colors, so my son and I drove up to the top of Reseda Bl. where you can see the whole city laid out below you. I had intended to take pics of Gorgeous Sunset, and I did, but my favorite turns out to be this one above of two strangers. It's another one of those shots where the people look like they have happy, perfect lives but who knows? I hope they are happy people - I hope they are in love, get married, have a family and tell their grandchildren one day how this lady they didn't know took their pic at the top of the mountain.

In the meantime, I'm buying an Uzi and am going to go mow down the damn doctor who quit on my kid. I spoke to her three days ago and she didn't say anything - as complicated as my kid's case has been, you would think she would warn me, suggest a replacement, give me tips, something. Now we have to start the process all over again. What an effing circus it all is.

By the way, thank you to the person who sent the Starburst wrappers. You will be happy to know that the chain is now much taller than my daughter is, though we have a bit to go before she breaks the world record, ahem. I'll try to get her to let me take a pic with the chain, but don't hold your breath - she tried to go blonde and ended up orange. She's not liking cameras right now.
