Work took me into Santa Monica today. I took my pics and decided to take the long way home, through Malibu and Topanga Canyon. There are fires out in the hills around us and it always makes for interesting skies. I'm amazed by what smoke in the air does to the sun - it turns it this fluorescent crayon red or pink that seems so unlikely outside the surface of Vulcan, where I regularly hang out with Mr. Spock(above). And look at the reflection of the sunlight on the water (below).

Driving home through the canyon, I saw I was hardly the only one out there with a camera. There must have been a dozen cars stopped on this stretch of Topanga Canyon Road and all of us were shooting pics or video of the sky (below). I love that feeling, where a whole bunch of complete strangers spontaneously do the exact same thing. I always feel like that when a line of cars pulls over to allow an ambulance or fire truck to pass. One with my fellow beings without having to loan any of them money, I suppose.
