Awareness soup. We had some with our grilled cheese sandwiches tonight and will spend the next few hours eagerly awaiting the news that breast cancer has been cured.
. . .

Well, I was really sick for a while. My stomach still feels joggly and queasy, but the rest of me is mostly fine. Good thing, because we have a busy week ahead of us. We'll be visiting family, going to the theater and Disneyland.

It makes my stomach joggle just to think about it.

We put together the bags for the homeless, today. I really lucked out on some bargains at places like .99 Only stores and I got gloves at Target for only .75 a pair. What we ultimately managed in each of ten bags:

  • 4 granola/protein bars
  • 3 cans meat
  • 1 can Vienna sausage
  • 3 fruit cups
  • 2 juice drinks
  • 1 bottle water
  • 2 slim jims
  • 2 cheese and crackers packs
  • 1 bottle of ibuprofen
  • 1 small (very small) first aid kit
  • 1 toothbrush/toothpaste
  • 1 small bottle shampoo
  • 1 small bar of soap
  • 1 small pack Kleenex
  • 1 foil emergency blanket
  • 1 rain poncho
  • 1 hand warmer
  • 2 wet ones cleaning wipes
  • 4 plastic spoons

We topped this off by gift wrapping one scarf, cap, pair of gloves and a large Hershey's bar and putting them in each bag. The scarves are the only thing that cost me, five bucks a piece, but I got most of that back when my kid sold back her books for this semester. Tonight we'll get the X-mas tree (for the holiday I don't believe in because we aren't Christian but if you have kids it doesn't matter) and we'll be on the look-out for homeless people. When we find one, we'll give 'em a bag. Does it cure homelessness? No - but it might make someone feel better, even for a few minutes, and I think it's setting a great example for the kids.
